Lucia is the Local Honored Hero for the CCFA!

Meet Western Washington Walk Honored Hero Lucia Mathews!

Lucia first learned of the CCFA from her GI doctor (Dr. Wahbeh) at Seattle Children's. She was excited to learn that the CCFA sponsored activities for local kids who also have Crohn's. She was able to attend Camp Oasis in 2009 and 2010 which, as you know, is sponsored by the CCFA. She says suffering with Crohn's disease is almost worth it because she is able to go to Camp Oasis, she loves it that much. Everybody at the CCFA's local chapter has been so helpful, kind and supportive.
Lucia is such an outgoing girl and will often strike up a conversation about Crohn's disease with strangers while waiting in line with her mom at the grocery store. She isn't afraid to let people know that she has IBD and hopes that her fundraising for the CCFA will help contribute to finding a cure for IBD. She first participated in Take Steps two years ago and was glad to achieve the $250 level for fundraising. Last year, she wanted to come up with a way to raise even more money, so she came up with the idea of a bake sale and a raffle. With the help of friends, family and local businesses, she was able to raise over $500 at that one event. By social networking online, her total last year was over $2,200!
She has lots of hobbies and interests and doesn't want to let anything hold her back from her dreams. She hopes to one day be the "first girl president". She loves to read, draw, play outside, visit museums. She plays clarinet at the school band and sings in the school choir. Lucia also wants to help protect the environment, which is a focus of her Girl Scout Troop. She also participates in church activities.

Lucia is taking steps to find a cure for digestive diseases (Crohn's & Colitis). Join her by registering or donating here: Lucia's CCFA Page
